Case For Support:  Art Restoration at LHU

Art Restoration at Lock Haven University

Lock Haven University and The Lock Haven University Foundation hold an extensive art collection.  These works include a significant number of works by Lock Haven native John Sloan.  In order to protect, restore and display the collection the University has established a conservation statement and plan for appraisal and exhibition of its work.

Conservation Statement:
Gifts of art and art objects donated to the university are evaluated upon receipt. Condition reports are generated and action is taken as needed to conserve the work. If it is determined that steps are needed to repair or remediate the work, then this is arranged for as soon as possible, with immediate action taken to arrest any further wear or deterioration of the art object until further conservation actions can be initiated.

LHU collections contain works by a number of well-known American and European artists including John Sloan, Alexander Calder, Thomas Hart Benton, Albrecht Durer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Käthe Kollwitz, Henry Moore, Pablo Picasso, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Salvador Dali and James Abbott McNeil Whistler.

The Lock Haven University art collection is assessed by professional conservators from outside the institution. On staff, Jason Bronner, curator of the collections and visual arts faculty member, has six years background in art preparation and conservation, (prior to his time at Lock Haven), as well as degrees in Printmaking(BFA), and Painting and Drawing(MFA).
